MY SKINCARE ROUTINE

Best skin care products of 2019

Skin care routine products; cleanser, facial exfoliant, toner, sleeping beauty mask, eye cream and moisturizer

Hi Friends! In the last couple of weeks, I’ve been getting a lot of questions on the products I use on my skin, and requests to show what my current skin care routine is like, so I am super excited to finally share my latest everyday skin care routine with you today! To start off, I thought it would be best to describe my skin type, so that you can get an idea of what my skin is like and why the products I use, work for me.

SKIN TYPE:

I’ve always had very sensitive, acne prone, combination skin. It’s never too oily or dry, but always sensitive and prone to breakouts, so I have to be careful with the products I use, as a lot of products can irritate my skin or make it break out. During the winter months, my skin tends to get dry. It will either get dry all over or in patches, which often show up on my forehead, around my nose and the corners of my mouth. I’ve struggled with acne my whole life, and still experience occasional breakouts as an adult, which over the years, has left me with acne scarring, redness and uneven texture and skin tone.

However, I am happy to report that my current skin care routine is gentle, effective and keeps all my skin issues under control, as I am no longer struggling with breakouts and texture changes, as much as I used to! The redness on my skin is finally going away and acne scarring is slowly fading. I am happy with the products that I’ve been using and the results I am getting from them, which is why I am so excited to share them with you today, in hopes you get similar results!

CLEANSER:

For years, I struggled to find a cleanser that truly felt like it deeply and effectively cleaned my skin, but wasn’t harsh, or drying. The closest thing I ever got to that was Cetaphil’s Gentle Skin Cleanser, so I used that one for years, and really liked it! However, It wasn’t until I started working at Skin Laundry, that I found my holy grail skin cleanser, their Gentle Foaming Wash Cleanser. Its been 2 years since I left my job at Skin Laundry, and still haven’t found anything like it! It’s the best cleanser I’ve ever used and I recommend it to everyone!

It is formulated without parabens, sulfates and phthalates, and instead contains natural healing ingredients like soothing cucumber and chamomile extracts that help calm and soothe the skin. It also contains shea butter, which leaves my skin feeling super soft and supple after I use it. The best thing about this cleanser is that its really helped reduce the redness on my skin and eliminate any roughness and uneven texture that I had. I honestly feel this cleanser deep cleans my skin by washing away dirt, excess oil and impurities without over drying or irritating my skin, which is exactly what I was looking for.

SKIN TIP: Most people start off their morning skin care routine by washing their face. However, I only wash my face at night. In the mornings, I just rinse it with warm water, apply toner and moisturize afterwards. Washing your face first thing in the morning strips your face from the natural oils produced over night when the skin is healing itself. These natural oils are essential for healthy skin, ph balance and protection.

FACIAL EXFOLIANT:

I exfoliate 2-3 times a week, and have been using Grown Alchemist Polishing Facial Exfoliant, to do so. It’s super gentle and leaves my skin feeling soft and smooth, while polishing away all dead skin cells and dry skin. It is made from clean ingredients and contains antioxidants and polyphenols to improve skin appearance and heal it from oxidative stress that builds up overtime. What I really love about this exfoliant is how it makes my skin feel after I use it! It leaves my skin feeling baby soft, clean and refreshed, without irritating it, causing redness or breaking me out.

SKIN TIP: Exfoliating every day is bad for your skin! Don’t do it! It strips your skin from its natural oils, which can cause breakouts. It also leaves your skin’s top layer vulnerable, since you are exfoliating it away before it fully heals. Over time, this can thin out your skin and cause it to wrinkle more easily. Instead, exfoliate 2-3 times a week, keep your skin moisturized, and trust that your skin is already taking care of itself and shedding dead skin on its own.

TONER:

Okay, this toner has literally saved my skin! I don’t know what it is about it, but I swear by it. Ever since using this product, the redness and acne scarring on my skin started fading away, and my skin started looking healthier, younger and dare I say, prettier? The Kiehl’s Calendula Herbal Extract Toner is magic in a bottle, and is an essential part of my skin care regimen. It’s an alcohol free toner, infused with calendula flower petals, allantoin, and burdock root, so its really good for the skin, and great for cleansing, soothing, and inhibiting bacterial growth. This toner claims to improve redness, dullness, uneven texture and excess oiliness, and I can defintely agree that it has helped my skin with all of that. My skin is so much better now, and it didn’t take long to start seeing real results!

SKIN TIP: Don’t skip toner! I know sometimes life gets busy and we might have to skip some steps in our skincare routine to save time, but using toner should not be one of them! It only takes a few swipes with a cotton ball to get it done, and the benefits are huge! Toner helps to quickly cleanse the skin, shrink and de-clog pores, restore the skin’s natural ph and remove excess oils. This quick and easy step can prevent unnecessary breakouts and keeps skin looking its best!

BEAUTY SLEEPING MASK:

Shiseido’s Ibuki Beauty Sleeping Mask is probably my favorite beauty product in my skin care regimen, because it gives me instant results. I use it every night after toning and I can’t get enough of it! I can’t exactly pin-point how and where my skin has gotten better since using this product, because it’s honestly been an overall improvement in every way! Some things I have noticed are that whenever I use this product, redness is dramatically reduced, my pores look smaller the next day, and I wake up with noticeably radiant, moisturized skin! So I definitely recommend this mask if you struggle with redness or dull looking skin and want results quick! This sleeping beauty mask will definitely take care of it!

SKIN TIP: Make the most out of your beauty products, especially face masks by applying any excess product to your neck, chest, elbows, knees and anywhere else you think needs a little more love!

EYE CREAM:

I’ve been using Farmacy’s Dew It All eye cream every night for a month now, and I am really loving the results so far! My under eye area has been so smooth and moisturized, AND my 50 shades of gray under eye circles are finally starting to go away too! What I love most about this cream is that it’s a clean product! – Meaning, it is safe, made from honest, organic ingredients and not tested on animals, as most of the products I use are. It also has ingredients like echinacea purpúrea, cichoric acid, rosehip, chamomile, and calendula, along with rich vitamins and antioxidants, which all help to support collagen production, combat signs of aging, prevent wrinkles and reduce puffiness, skin darkness and redness! All making my puffy under eye circles a thing of the past! Finally!

SKIN TIP: Don’t just apply eye cream to the area under your eyes. Make sure to apply a little bit on your eyelids, eye creases and temples too! Those areas are often forgotten, and are very sensitive to the aging process, so make sure to take care of them as well!

MOISTURIZER:

Saving the best for last! The Protini Polypeptide Cream is a rich, protein infused moisturizer from one of my all time favorite beauty brands; Drunk Elephant. I try to use this most nights, but find myself especially reaching for it when my skin is super dry and is in some serious need of TLC!

This product is vegan and gluten free, and claims to reduce fine lines, wrinkles and sun damage, while providing proteins and nutrients to help skin stay strong, supple and moisturized. I find that it prevents my skin from getting dry, and instantly saves it when it does get to that point. It’s very rich and moisturizing, and definitely makes my skin feel stronger and more supple after each use.

SKIN TIP: Massage in your moisturizer! Most of us pat, dab or lightly rub in our facial moisturizer, but the best thing to do is to really massage it in! By doing this, you’ll increase blood flow to your face, which aids in healing and keeping skin young, radiant and bright!

Love how detailed this post is – great tips! I really appreciate when a blog post explains the experience with the product rather than just linking it. I’ll have to check out that sleep mask!
